About Carroll County, GA
Carrollton, the county seat for Carroll County, was incorporated December 22, 1829. Carrollton, nicknamed "The Friendly City", is named after Charles Carroll's old colonial home in Chesapeake Bay, Virginia.
The city hosts the Carrollton Mayfest, an annual festival that includes arts and crafts, live entertainment, and food. Other events include the Cherry Chase (February), Taste of Carrollton (May), All-American Triathlon (July), Cherokee Rose Story telling Festival (September) and the Christmas Tree Lighting & Parade (November).
Carrollton is home to The State University of West Georgia, a member of the University System of Georgia, and Carroll Technical Institute.
According to 2000 Census, the City of Carrollton had a population of 19,843 persons. Between 1990 and 2000, the city experienced a population increase of 23.8%, compared to the state growth during this period of 26.4%. |
