About Kennesaw, Georgia
Kennesaw is community with a rich history, an important business center, and an exceptional quality of life. Our residents have access to nationally recognized educational resources as well as parks, recreation and cultural programs and services, excellent public and private golf courses, and attractive, modern neighborhoods. Kennesaw is located in the heart of Cobb County, approximately 20 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta. Interstate 75 is nearby, providing convenient access to shopping and entertainment in the Town Center Mall area.
Our downtown, filled with antique, specialty shops, and restaurants, is alive with activities throughout the year. In April, Kennesaw plays host to the Big Shanty Festival, one of the largest arts and craft shows in North Georgia. During the summer, the scenery comes alive with free outdoor summer concerts and movies across from the historic train Depot; browse for fresh produce at the Farmers Market on Main Street, or participate in a living history program across from the Museum. In the fall, storytellers converge for the annual Folk Tales of the Rails, an event unique to Kennesaw. Downtown Kennesaw offers many opportunities to sample “hometown” charm.
Quality of life is very important. The City is working to ensure that residents have ample recreational opportunities for future generations. In late 2004, the City acquired two properties for recreational purposes, including Swift-Cantrell Park, a 42-acre property that will provide walking trails, playgrounds, and more; and the Gilbert Botanical Gardens, a 13-acre botanical paradise off Pine Mountain Road. The Gilbert Botanical Gardens consists of a 1850s-era home, walking trails, sculpture gardens, and plants from around the world. |
